Problem after Rebuild of Desktop

Here's a question for all you, who know there stuff. This morning after I
rebuilt the desktop, my Internet Explorer 5.1 and my Outlook express, refuse
to open. I get the famous "type 1 error".
I am running 9.2, I have plenty of memory and disk space.
I am using my Netscape to get this cry for help out. These are the only
problems I am having. All other programs work great.

I tried the Microsoft Internet self repair that comes with program, but no luck.
Norton Disk doctor couldn't find anything. Should I reinstall these 2
apps? or is there something simpler?

Thanks for your help
Moni

Re: Problem after Rebuild of Desktop
I'd start by cutting back on your extensions and control panels. Reboot your Mac and hold down the Space Bar. When Extensions Manager appears, select Mac OS 9 All from the list of available extension sets. Try booting the problem apps (they'll probably install some components before they launch).

If the problem goes away, some extension or control panel has been giving you trouble. Go back to Extensions Manager and select your normal settings. Weed through the list of stuff and see if there's something you can take out (Casady & Green's Conflict Catcher could help find troublesome items for you).

Re: Problem after Rebuild of Desktop
My suggestion is to put a backup copy of your Outlook mailbox and address box (in the System folder) in a safe place in case they are lost in the re-install and then re-install Explorer. This should be pretty fast. If you still have problems, do the extensions thing. Did you do any kind of repair and/or optimization program (like Norton Utilities) before you rebuilt the desktop?
