mail question

i'm assuming it's possible to set up mail so that you can choose from multiple accounts to send from. as in..... i have 3 email accounts in mail, i can check the email in all three, but for some reason it will only let me send mail from one. when i compose new email i see an option to select which account to send from, but choosing the other 2 results in an error message.

"the outgoing mail server "................... " failed to deliver this message. verify that you have addressed this message correctly. check your smtp server settings in mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.

if you would like to use a different dilivery account for sending messages from this account for the time being, select it below and click "try this account.""

even still, if i try to select a different delivery account other than the one that already works, it won't let me, and then eliminates it from the list of possible accounts to send from next time around.

i'm sure someone on here knows how to fix this so that it's easier to switch between multiple email accounts to send email. thanks in advance.

Re: mail question
So in your Mail preferences for accounts, what are your settings for your outgoing mail server in each account?

Re: mail question
It may be that you only have one outgoing server - your ISP. In that case, change the outgoing server in all your accounts to the one that works and you should be fine.

Re: mail question

Re: mail question
O.K., adding to the fray! I have been successfully using Mail since I switched almost a year ago. Yesterday, I decided to get a second mailbox with my current ISP. Went to the mac and added an account. I can see it, can choose to send mail from it and successfully send, but cannot download mail on that account. I have sent test messages, and know they are going through, because when I go to the webmail, the messages are there. Just can't get them in Mail. Have the account set up exactly like the original account on the computer except for the "name". Feel sure I'm only a mouse click away, just don't know where to click! Anyone? Thanks in advance!

Different account, so you get your mail from a different server. Make sure your incoming mail server is correct for the particular account (not the same). Outgoing should be the same, since all your traffic is going out through your only ISP.

Re: mail question
Thanks for your quick reply! How do I determine the correct incoming mail server? Where should I look? Figured since this is just another mailbox on my current ISP server (i.e., ISP allows up to 5 or so additional mailboxes) that all would be the same except for the username.
