Import mpeg into iMovie

Does anybody know of a way to import an mpeg 30 sec video/audio into iMovie 3.0.3? My Sony Cybershot will take 60 sec mpeg's and I'd love to scoot part into iMovie, but the audio doesn't work. Yes, I know iMovie doesn't support mpeg1 muxed format, but was hoping of a work around. Thanks for any help.

The way around it is to demux the audio and video, then import then both into iMovie. Alternately, you can use Toast 6--it will convert and burn MPEG-1 to DVD.

Jon ..thanks, I tried both Demuxing utilities: MoreMissingTools, and bbDemux and now understand the concept of spliting the video/audio...great. The video works great, and the audio works great in iTunes 4.0.1and also in iMovie 3.0.3 when selected. But trying to 'Place at Playhead' it doesn't support xxxx.m1a and same message when draging to sound track in iMovie. I did try ToastTv5.2 (not supported), but wanted a reason for v6.x so will try that. This is a challenge more than anything now. I'll post back after tinkering more with demux & ToastT. I'm on the right 'track' I do believe..thanks.

Finally got the Sony digital still mpeg split from multiplexed to audio.wav and video.mpg into iMovie. using MoreMissingTools The part I didn't like was it launched the Termial when converting the mpeg (audio) into .wav. At least until I'm more familiar with it. The problem with bbDEMUX was couldn't find a way to convert the audio .m1a into a sound file that iMovie/iTunes/ToastT supported. Thanks again Jon...and it does work

Popcorn 2 by roxio will convert just about anything into just about anything else; including converting an mpg into a .m4v or something that you can import into imovie. It is a surprisingly useful program - check it out
