PC World must have got it wrong. Check out Apple's benchmarks...

I'm in when the dual 3 Ghz G5 is released. I crave speed!

check em out yourself and shout out what you think about them.

Re: Apple's new G5 benchmarks on Apple.com
PC World based its findings on Microsoft Word and Premiere, two programs that are heavily unoptimized for the Mac, let alone the G5.

As with all sales pitches, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The dual 2 GHz G5 is slower than an FX-51 in single processor tasks, but blows it out of the water in MP tasks, provided, of course, that the applications have roughly the same optimization for each platform. PC Magazine's test is, in my opinion, the most level. Macworld's extensive graphs don't do much, as they did not choose good cross-platform tests (probably influenced by their brethren at PC World). Most of the graphs that showed the G5 ahead were in Apple or Apple specific applications, if I recall correctly.

Until there's a definitive leader in speed, find the tool that best suits the job at hand. Same as in the PC graphics card arena right now...

Did you check out the Macworld tests of the G5 vs. PC? It's hard to admit, but the G5 got spanked hard.

There is a great thread in the Magazine Feedback forum about this article.

I, along with numerous others, felt the Macworld tests did not do the G5 justice.
Go read the thread if interested.
