Trouble converting old Wordperfect files

Hello everyone,

Is there any piece of software that can convert OLD Wordperfect files to new MS Word files? I realize that you can import or recover text files into new Word docs one at a time, but they always import with all sorts of extraneous characters. Is there a good conversion solution out there? How about one that can batch import a whole bunch of files?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the Help section it seems MacLink Plus Delux version 14 should be able to translate the file. It's sold commercially by DataViz.

Here is my favorite. I've never found anything that Tex-Edit couldn't handle.

Re: Trouble converting old Wordperfect files
MacLinks Plus Deluxe would be my choice, as it will also hadle files from dozens of other programs as well. If you collect files from all over, it is the best solution.

MS Word also has an import filter for WordPerfect files, but it is not always installed with the program. You can try reinstalling MS Word. If asked, choose "Install additional components" otherwise, choose "Custom Install". Look for MS Word, and Import Filters, and install the Import filters for the version of WordPerfect you have (or just install all the WordPerfect import filters.)

With the import filters installed, you should be able to select a group of files, and have MS Word convert and import them, one after the other.

you'll love this. believe it or not, old WordPerfect files are compatible with Project Manager, the Project Manager that is available with Developer Tools. I discovered as my dad and I went through his old office files, and I noticed their endings were similar to some code files i had come over in the past (no, i do not program), and i decided to try it out, and well . . . i'm glad you benefited from my curiosity.

Re: Trouble converting old Wordperfect files
What version of Word for Mac are you using and how old are your WordPerfect files? Has anyone tried just using a recent version of Word for the Mac to open WordPerfect files? (I'm still using Word98 for Mac myself - I tend to get every other upgrade on most software). Someone at work this at work a couple weeks ago and I was very surprised when someone using Word2000 for PC was able to open a WordPerfect file we got in an email. I used WordPerfect up until I bought Word98 and hope to upgrade my version of Office soon, so am very interested to know if this will work on the more recent Mac versions of MSWord as well as the PC version. (If not, I don't know whether complaining to Microsoft about their Mac/PC feature parity will do any good - it can't hurt) Or perhaps your (and my) WordPerfect files are too old and this only works with recent WordPerfect files. If that's the case, can you find someone with a recent version of WordPerfect for PC to save them to a later version of WordPerfect first?
