will letterbox screen burn my LCD?

Just got a Sharp Aquos 20 in. TV (which states it's compatible with Mac computers as a monitor). I will be watching TV and movies on it. Is it an old wive's tale that by watching stuff in letterbox (this is a "standard" shape TV) I will risk burning the letterbox impression on the LCD screen? With apologies to old wives.

Re: will letterbox screen burn my LCD?
That was a danger with CRT's because, each time the electron beam sweeps across the phosphorous dot in the screen, it erodes a little bit of the phosphorous. So, if you you often don't use some of the phosphors (view a whole lot of letter box movies and rarely watch full screen program for example) then you will get differential wear on the screen thus burning the image into it.

This is not supposed to be a problem with LCD's. These produce their images through a completely different process. Therefore, they are not subject to that kind of wear.

Yup, just a CRT problem. My (old) school left their 233 mhz iMacs running all the time, and some teachers who almost never used their computers had the login screen horribly burned.
