Simple Question about a G4 Case

I do not want to start a war here, just a simple question.

How difficult would it be to put a standard pc motherboard into a G4 case?

As I understand it the case has the atx layout, though I have heard that I will have to use a PC powersupply. Also from what I have seen is that there are 4 PCI slots, so I do believe that I will have to get a new motherboard (currently have 5 PCI and one AGP).

I am getting sick of the standard pc box layout and I like the design of the G4 case (hence the question in my first post), hence why the idea came to me. I have seen such mods done before in a few mags.

Has anyone done such a thing before?

I don't want any wars here either, but I have a counter-question for you: Why would you want to?

Its been done a lot. But if you've never done a case mod, I would suggest not to.

We won't tell Sam that you said that, and maybe you can get away quietly.

Try Apple Fritter, they like case mods over there.

Re: Simple Question about a G4 Case
A straight answer -- shouldn't be too difficult for the MB, different MB mounting holes. I don't know exactly how the standoffs are mounted in the G4 case but adding standoffs to a sheet of metal is no big.

You'll most likely need to put in a PC power supply. The on off cycling is controlled differently. That will be a more difficult mod, just a little sheet metal work.

Lastly pay attention to the power switch wiring, hate to cross wiring something and let the smoke out.

Good luck and let us know if you want to get rid of the extra mac parts

Yeah really, I will give you my adress and I will pay for shipping. I want the Processor+Motherboard+RAM+CD-Rom so I can build my own. I will just tear out the Hard Drive out of my iMac which is seven months old and sell those parts. hehehehe......

(I am just kidding you know inless you really want to send me free parts!)
