iMovie Damaged

Hi to you all,

I've done it (again) or Murphy's Law?

I created the last days an iMovie project, existing out of several 100 digital photos and some QuickTime movies. I was just about to finish, and all it needed was the sound and the Chapter markers for iDVD, when it struck me again.
In order to free some virtual memory (I guess that's it; every time when after several hours of working in iMovie, the application became slow, and so I restarted the computer and the speed came back) I wanted to restart my PowerBook. Just to be sure I clicked first "save project", and after several minutes writing to the external disc I clicked "restart", but before the saving process was completed. Usually, the systems waits either until a process running is completed before restarting or, at least, says something like "application xy terminated the restart process".

Not this time.

The system immediately powered down and restarted the computer, but in the end iMovie refused to launch!
I repaired permissions, did fsck and finally tried to re-install iMovie from the iLife'04 installation disk. The only difference: while before iMovie was just bouncing once and quit without any message, this time I get the message "You cannot open the application "iMovie" because it may be damaged or incomplete".

Does anybody know any way out of this situation, so I can run iMovie4 again on my computer and even recover the project?

I am running 10.3.3 and iLife '04 by the way.

Thank you very much for your ideas,

arne
