Web cams and video chatting????

i have not been able to find any good web cams compatible with os x.... does anyone know of any, prefferably logitech or intel...

and once i find one of those, then what to use it on.... let's face it, most of the time i will be chatting with someone on a windows machine and the only thing that i can think of as far as an im client goes that is on both windows and mac that is universally used is msn messenger... the xp version has integrated video chat... but i can't find that anywhere in messenger v. 3.0... any thoughts, solutions... thanx...

Apple should release iChat for all platforms free and give user texting using there phone number, messeging, file transfer, voice chat, video chat

all FREE and all work on OS X, PPC, XP, Unix, Linux, Palm.

and all you need to use this is to register and get a user name, not tied to a network like AOL,

I mean in the UK, i knw noone who uses AOL.

If you want something cross platform, you will probably end up connecting to NetMeeting (on the windows side). NetMeeting uses a standard called H.323 so you will need to start from that to find a software program that is compatible and then find a webcam that is compatible with the software you chose.

Look a this (rather outdated) page: http://www.onenet.net/ops/h323/323mac.html

or here:http://www.openh323.org/h323_clients.html

A search for: "H.323" Mac
using google also yields interesting results.

Yahoo chat is video and cross platform capable. Take a look at the yahoo main site and follow the link for the Yahoo messenger.

Orangemicro makes great web cams with either Firewire or USB:

Personally i use the iBot with firewire as its much faster than usb. Works like a charm with yahoo messenger in OSX.

You COULD also try iVisit which works in Classic (apparently). They seem to be working on a X native version.
