How to partition HD?

hi, sorry if this is a stupid question, but my searches keep turning up nothing. is there a way to create a partition on my os x hard drive? i know i could reformat the disk with a partition, but i do not have sufficient storage space to back up all of my data. can it be done without clearing my existing HD? help!

No, that's not possible. In the Windows world, people use a product called Partition Magic to do this, but a product like it doesn't not exist in the Mac world.

Re: How to partition HD?
Sometime within the last month I read of such a program developed or being developed. It was on the macworld.com news section. I went to the archives going back to June 1 and I couldn't find it, so it must have been the end of May. If you could get into the May archives I think you'd find it.
