Can't write to PC server; "-50" error code

About two weeks ago our server started acting up. When copying files to the server, we get "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code -50)" and the copy doesn't go through. According to Apple, error code 50 has to do with illegal characters in the title of the file. But we have plain alphanumeric names, and have never had trouble with them before.

Also, when I make a new folder on the server and attempt to title it, the computer says the name is illegal, no matter what it is.

I'm getting the same error code when I try to copy files from my PowerMac to my iDisk. Initially it looked like it only happened when copying large amounts of files, but I was able to reproduce it even when copying a single file. The file names were simply 1.html, 2.html, etc. So it couldn't have been illegal characters.

Most of the time, when it failed to copy a bunch of files, I would successfully copy over the files one at a time. But this takes too long when you have hundreds of files to copy.

You could try copying in batches as it may be one file or files that it doesn't like? Not an outstanding suggestion but I thought I would throw it in.

Re: Can't write to PC server; "-50" error code
Yeah, I tried that, but I would get the same error. Sometimes I would get the same error when trying to copy even one file, then I would try that one file again and it would work! Maybe it was a server load thing or something.

Anyway, I figured out a solution that worked. I just used the Terminal and copied the files that way, and it worked fine, no errors.

Maybe it's a bug in the Finder?
