Time for a clean OS install, but how?? ibook600...

All,
This seems like a very simple request, but for some reason, I think I may be over-thinking it.

I have a 12" ibook600, 640MB that came as a dual boot (OS9 + OSX). I have Panther on it now and removed most of what I thought was OS9, but I cannot confirm 100% of the removal of OS9 was totally successful.

I would like to "start fresh" with Panther--ONLY. Again, I know this may seem like a super_simple question.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, you could back up your data and do an erase and install of Panther.

That would be the easiest way. But before you do this, make sure you de-authorize your iTMS account, assuming that you have one.

What would happen if I did NOT de-authorize my iTMS account?

Not quite sure how the authorization is tied to your computer (i.e. through the serial number, a buried file on the drive, etc.), but I would think that you might lose one of your 5 authorizations.

You do. Apple can reset it, but they really don't like you to.

So...an "erase and install" is an option when I put in the first Panther disc?

Hmmmm, I had no idea of that option.

So, that would just give me the one OS on the machine, right? No remnants of OS9, right?

Yes, yes, and yes.

You would lose one of your five authorizations to play music from the iTunes Music Store on a computer. The music store license allows for you to play it on up to five computers.
