Mac 911 Weblog: Taking the Family to the AirPort

As anyone who has ever successfully monkeyed with a computer will tell you, the minute you put a family member's Mac to rights, you become the IT department for your entire clan (and every single "close personal friend of the family"). more

Can Airport Express extend a Software Base Station
I'm thinking of setting up my eMac with an Airport Extreme card and turning on Internet Sharing, essentially using the computer as a software base station.

Would I be able to use an Airport Express somewhere else in the house to extend my wireless range?

Any idea whether it can be used as a repeater for none Apple wireless networks such as Linksys or D-Link. If not, what do you suggest for those products? My friend uses Linksys and and I have the D-Link wireless-G.

I've been thinking of getting the AE for travel purposes, so that I can have wireless networking, and printing to a portable printer, in hotel rooms with ethernet.

From what I've read, no.

D-Link and Linksys make repeaters that are compatible with their products. Check their websites for model #'s and details.
