photos from PC to Mac

I have transferred my PC contents onto my mac. In general no problems with most photos making the transition. However I have a few photos which are shown as plain white sheets (icons) which come up "no application associated" I've attempted to open with iphoto and photoshop but they are not recognised. Has anyone got any suggestions. Each file is about 550kb??

On the photos that aren't working, what is the extension of the file name?

Re: photos from PC to Mac
They look to be Microsoft picture files of some sort. You're going to need to convert them into a usable format like JPEG.

Re: photos from PC to Mac
MIX is the default format for PhotoDraw 2000, a
discontinued microsoft product. You'd pretty much
have to take those puppies back to your PC and
save them in a more general format like .JPG

I don't think any mac-side translator will work
on them, but maybe Word will read them. I don't
have any MIX files to test with.

I even checked the army swiss knife of them all, Graphic Converter, and it doesn't mention mix files .

Re: photos from PC to Mac
The web page I posted said they had luck opening .mix files in both CorelDraw and by using MS works on an XP machine and inserting the file into a text file.

Since I do not have a .mix file to test this on I can only pass on what I am reading.

BTW .mix is also the default file type for MS PictureIt a much more commonly used app than PhotoDraw.

Re: photos from PC to Mac
This is most likely a Microsoft file from Picture-It a photo editing program included with Windows 98 and Microsoft Works. It allowed simple editing and printing. You will likely need to find a copy and export the files.

Re: photos from PC to Mac
If you have a copy of Microsoft Word, you might want to try opening your .mix graphic files in that program. The Windows version of Word, at least, will open a .mix file, so it seems to at least be worth a try to see if the Mac version of Word can do so also.
