Need an easy/basic invoicing app ...

Hi all,
I'm looking for a basic/easy to use invoicing app -Preferably a free one. I have been doing Freelance web and graphic design and would like something to use to maybe keep info about individual clients as well as something I could use to create invoices to bill them with...I have quickbooks pro 6 mac but it's really too complicated for what I need right now...

Any ideas or links?

Thanks,
David

There is nothing really good that is free. If you have Filemaker Pro and feel like messing with the data base, there are some free invoice templates you can find online.

I use mysoftware's Smart Office Pack. It is brand new and includes My Invoices which is abailable for the first time for the Mac. I used that program on my PC for years, and this is the first mac version. It is simple, works well, tracks your data base, makes basic labels, etc. I got it at CompUSA and it was about 60 dollars.

IF you find an invoice program you really like, let me know! SO far, this is the only program I have found that is worthwhile.

You could also use the database feature in Appleworks (similar to Filemaker in concept) Create a basic template with all of the necessary info ought to do nicely....

Re: Need an easy/basic invoicing app ...
i have been creating invoice with Microsoft Excel. it comes with a free customizable templete. the problem it is difficult to changes things in the templete. for example, if you issue an invoice for $500 and the person makes a payment of $250, it is difficult to put the origional total on the invoice then subtract the payment add late fees, etc and then have it total. the reason it is hard is the template has the fields locked.

the other problem is you must manual go back and check if an invoice has been paid so if you are doing multiple invoices, there is nothing to warn you.

i am in need of a better invoice system and am open to any ideas too. if you find one let me know.

MYOB's FirstEdge (about $50 from DigitalRiver.com) does a fine job for us.

Why can't you just edit the template? I haven't tried editing Excel templates, but in Word I could just open a template, make any changes I wanted, and save it as a new template.

well you can and you can't. the template allows for some nice customization, but it doesn't like you to muck around with the cells. most of the time it gives me a warning. i tried to make sure the protection features were off, but that doesn't help.

i can edit them limitedly. the other side of it is tracking. i have to go and look at each invoice to see what is still out there.
