Airport Express

I was wondering, how does the AirPort really work??? Is it a modem itself, or just a router? I have a cable modem right now, so should I just buy a wireless router and just use that? Im getting an Ibook 12' so it comes with the airport extreme card, which confuses me even more because is that the same as the base station and the wireless airport express? What to do, and why is all this nonsense so difficult???

Re: Airport Express
Airport is just a router, if you want to call it that. It supports wireless. Your best bet though would just be to go with a Linksys Wireless Router or dlink wireless router. There all the same.

*Wait till after Macworld SF before your ibook purchase. You never know what might be released.

Re: Airport Express
Hello,

Macworld San Francisco is a large Apple event where new products are shown and released. I wouldn't worry too much about buying your iBook considering the iBook line was just updated so it is highly unlikely it will be updated again at Macworld SF.

By the way you can watch the keynote live on the internet on January 11, our friend Mr. Jobs is fun to watch!

I have been beat to the punch.

Re: Airport Express
The Airport Extreme base station is just a normal wireless router. You can buy it, or a much cheaper one from anyone else. And you need an Airport Extreme card (a receiver) in each computer.

The Macworld Expo is on January 11th. Watch Apple.com then to watch the video, or to just see the new products they announce.

IIRC Apple's latest/upcoming live feed is accessible at http://stream.apple.akadns.net/

I guarantee nothing but it's worth keeping an eye on. It usually shows up no earlier than a week before. So, start watching that URL and http://www.apple.com/quicktime starting Monday, January 3, 2005.
