Wide Screen LCDs...

After becoming use to the Ti landscape I won't buy another display unless it's widescreen and as much as I'd love to have one of Apple's larger displays I can't $wing one at those cost even with a discount.

We've seen Apple make 4 variations of widescreen displays (Ti PowerBooks, new iMacs, Cinema and HD Displays), but how much longer do you think it'll be before Apple and other 3rd party LCD makers only produce screens in the 16:9 format?

for one thing, 16:9 format is still uncommon. you'll experience this frist hand if you've got a widescreen TV and everything from cable is adjusted to fit your TV (things just look wierd). it'll look awesome (and the way it was meant to look) if you're watching some movies from DVD or movies labelled "letterbox" editions.

i have to agree though, the ADC displays is the dumbest ideas. why force potential apple customers to buy your apple displays? first, they cost almost double than that of a comparable LCD on the market for PC's, they're not THHHAT great to justify that increase and price, and I know so many people that would die to have an Apple desktop if they were not forced to pay for the expensive monitor.

granted that there's an adaptor out there for it, but why do I have to spend that much money to buy an adaptor to have a third party display working on my mac? forcing customers to buy the hardware all from one company is something only loyalist's to Apple can do. Unfortunately, there aren't many around - anymore.

Just read in "MacAddict", Dec issue, page 11 about the new Princeton Graphic Synergy 981 which really looks great at $1000. It is 19 inch butprovies a UXGA 1600x1200 resolution. Does anyone have any experience with this LCD?
