Re: Suggestions- LCD & Mini vs. G5 iMac
-Phil,

I was going to suggest the brand Samsung display to -Grant, one of the vets on these here boards. But I think he really wanted feedback from somebody that actually had an LCD display in their face. He ended up picking up a NEC display and is very pleased. Not sure this is a fare comparison, but we have a Samsung TV that is sweet'n clear. But then again, the Dell keeps popPing up on these boards so there has to be something to them. The Samsung 21.3" thats posted seems like a nice piece of real estate though
Edit ...forgot to mention the reviews are like 4 mice on that particular flavor

My suggestion is to get a Mac Mini, add memory (512 min. ), with Apple Care and Cinema Display 20"

This way, your Apple Care should cover Cinema Display fro 3 years if purchased together with the computer (please confirm with Apple). And, you will have a very nice looking set up at $1,722 total, with 3 year warranty for the whole system.

All other LCDs should be good, but none of them look as good on your desk compare to all-Apple-system, and it will not look like you cheaped out on monitor as your gift to your wife.

my 2 cents

You are right; I thought, AppleCare would not provide coverage for an Apple Display purchased at the same time. But I stand corrected.

From the Apple web page:

Comprehensive coverage
The AppleCare Protection Plan covers your Mac, as well as an AirPort Extreme Card, an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, and Apple RAM purchased for your Mac. Mac mini, Power Mac, and PowerBook customers can also enroll one Apple display for coverage, provided the Mac and display are purchased together.
