Ipod mini: showing up as removable HD

Hi. so my boss at work has a ipod mini. he just got a used imac g3 333mhz so that he could just hook it up and put new songs on it and take them off, ect ect. well when we hook up the ipod to the computer, it shows up as the removable hard drive, but does not show up in iTunes. if you click on the drive to view the contents, it only has three folders, notes, calender, and ... i forgot the third. but it doesnt show any music or anything. Any program we use doesnt show a ipod hooked up.

so my question. what USB does the old iMac's have? I read that mini's have to connect threw firewire or USB 2. I cant imagine those old iMacs having usb 2, but i could be wrong. I have a G4 Powerpc 466 and his ipod mini works fine on mine, and i didnt think these things had USB2. so if thats not the case, does any one have any suggestions why its not showing up on his G3? were using iTunes 4.7 and OSX 10.3.2 (which im going to upgrade to 10.3.9 today).

Both your Bosses and your Mac both have USB1.1, not USB 2.0, but that's not your problem.

You need to upgrade the OS. iPod mini with USB requires Mac OS X 10.3.4 or later.

Just a note, I'm using a 4GB iPod mini on my 333MHz iMac G3 with USB 1 and have had no problems with it. I'm running 10.2.8...Sorry, I don't have an answer, though!
