For reasons known only to our content management system, some of the nominees for this years Readers' Choice Awards were directed to the thread for last year's awards. Here are some nominees that were listed in the other thread.

Consumer Software/Hardware

Eye TV Software and Terratec Digital Terrestrial Television matchbox sized tuner provide a wonderful experience for folks in Europe, where DTT is our future.

Professional Software

BUILDER from Corda Technologies - great for imaginative and competent KNOWLEDGE folks.

(This software has never been mentioned in Mac Publications - get out there to Utah )

Hardware

iMac G5 is just great for the above applications.

<hr />

Keep those nominations coming, folks.

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: And the nominees are....
Hardware:
iPod nano, for sure!

Software:
1. iPhoto 5: great editing, nice calendar view, amazing new slideshow transitions, books nicer than ever, really improved!
2. iTunes 5: Search bar is very nice, new look very clean and elegant, folders are useful.

Just remember folks that products have to be released between Nov. 1, 2004 and Nov. 1, 2005 to be eligible. The 30" cinema display was introduced in June 2004, for example.

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: And the nominees are....
Perhaps its the recent release or the fact that I'm using it so much more fully than before but Backup 3 is tremendous. I don't know that you can consider FontExplorer X from Linotype a "release" as it's only reached RC status but that's an app any serious font nut must have.

So, for software: Backup 3 and FontExplorer X

For hardware? I like my Mighty Mouse. I like it a lot. If nothing else it should get a nod just for the "holy underwear Batman, they made a multi-button mouse" effect.

For the most part, though; I think many apps and hardware have seemed more evolutionary than revolutionary. For that sake, I can't think of many new apps or hardware that I've just "had to have."

What do you mean? Your nominees are listed above, and I explained the problem we had with the content management system.

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: And the nominees are....
Listed in those posts or not, the following deserve mention...

Hardware:
iPod Nano
Prosumer HD DV cameras

Software (General):
AdiumX (it has made many significant upgrades, and always gets better)
Google Desktop would probably be here if they made a Mac version

Software (Media):
Quicktime 7
JHymn (oh to finally be able to play my iTunes on Linux without hassle)

Software (Game):
World of Warcraft

Software (Pro):
FinalCut Pro

Software (Dev):
XCode

New category for most surprising solution:
Apple Intel Developers Kit

Software (most in need of update):
AppleWorks
Yahoo IM (not even close to PC features, nor updated in ages)
ICQ (not even close to PC features, thank goodness for Adium integrating everything)
Zinio (Still not updated with the new features, still incompatible with case sensitive HFS)

First off... "winnowed." Cool, a new word I'd never seen before!

Software:
- Feeder (I'm not sure if this qualifies... I don't know if it was a new program in the last year, I know it's at least been updated.)
- Tiger

Hardware:
- iPod Nano
- Any Mac with a built-in dual-layer superdrive.

I easily use it maybe five times a day...
