Re: Problem with mail
-Hi,
Try logging into a different account, or logging OUT, and IN.

Re: Problem with mail
Many folks use Pacifist, but I'm not positive it works with Tiger to extract applications from the install disk. You might try it. First remove Mail's .pkg: HD/Library/Receipts/Mail.pkg. You can place it in the trash, and if all works then trash it. I thought some member did a custom install w/ Tiger to install an Application, but for the life of me...NOT positive. I'm hoping some member will pop in to verify that Pacifist does indeed work w/ Tiger, or the latter. If it were me, and I needed mail quickly I think I'd go for the Pacifist. IMO..only

Re: Problem with mail
Before you do that, try creating a new user and see if Mail opens there. If it does, it's something in your user folder.

Re: Problem with mail
-Derik,
The OP, -Ben, said he tried a different account. But I like the idea of totally creating a NEW User, and try it. Also, quit Mail->drag the Mail icon to the desktop, and poof->get rid of the alias. Place a new alias in the Dock by dragging the Mail application: HD/Applications/Mail..into the Dock. It should be version 2.0.5 if you've updated the last Tiger 10.4.3.

Re: Problem with mail
And you trashed the Mail prefs found at: ~Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist? You might want to look more into: Pacifist and reinstall Mail.

Re: Problem with mail
Glad you got Mail to work, and now I/we know Pacifist works w/ Tiger, which it should have anyway.

Re: Problem with mail
-Ben,
Sorry you had additional snags, but there are many reviews where Pacifist did indeed function well extracting apps using Tiger's install discs. I just couldn't find any for Mail. Sounds like you're up and running now though.
