Airport express or alt?

I have a Netgear router for the Net. but Im wanting to have my MP3s play on my home stereo instead of the tiny speakers on my pbook. is airport express the only/best option or is there something else out there that will work with the mac that will just send the music?

The Airport Express will definately do what you want. Plus, it'll give you a wireless print server to boot.

The only other option I can think of is the Roku Soundbridge. I'm not sure if it's wireless out of the box, but it definately hooks up via ethernet. The downside is that Apple hasn't licensed Fairplay to them, so iTMS songs won't work on the Roku. It is compatible with MP3 and AAC(without DRM).

I just bought myself an Airport Express this week streams music nicely. I'm impressed enough that I'm thinking about getting another one for a different room.

Re: Airport express or alt?
If I remember right the AirPort Express can only extend the range of an AirPort Extreme or Express router so I'm not if it will work with a Netgear router. Anybody know anything more about it?

Yeah, but I'm not sure if the AirPort Express can even join it or not?

Re: Airport express or alt?
Graeme,

The Airport Express will absolutely work with the Netgear (and probably any 11g router). You'll need to put the AirExp into "client" mode. This will allow the AirExp to get an IP address from the router to be used for Airtunes and Printing.

Works great.

Incidentally, there are other non-Apple routers that work with the AirExp AND allows for network extending. The Linksys WRT54g does this with the help of some 3rd party firmware. Also, I've read where the Buffulo something does as well, but I'm not sure about this.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up, ftaok. By the way, I use Internet Sharing to create a wireless network from my iMac. I thought that I couldn't use an AirPort Express with it but I can? Just without the network extension?
