Re-receiving emails problem

About once a year, I will open my inbox and it will load up with a ton of messages that are shown as unread. I normally get about 30-40 emails each morning, but today I received 384 new emails (all dated at least two weeks ago). Why does this happen. i have a DSL connection and I am running 10.4 on an iBook.

It depends on how you are connecting to check your messages. If you have the e-mail messages deleted after you check them, if you are checking the messages from two different computers, if you are using an imap or pop account. You really need to check your account settings then we can see why this is happening.
