Wing Nuts 2? Isn't that a game where you're stuck in a riot in Detroit after the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup and you have to battle your way to the suburbs?

You left out the most important arrival
2006 brings a MUCH bigger gaming event to Mac: the imminent release of WINE / Crossover / Cedega for Macintel.

When Mac owners can run Windows apps directly within OSX, the gaming scene will go straight through the roof.

The downside, however, is that Mac porting houses will be in serious danger of extinction.

We need more genres. I always said computers could use a music and rhythm game like the upcoming beatmania: http://1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3140949

But besides that, other games like Katamari Damacy would be great. Not tons of shareware rejects that just add-on to some old game done over and over but brand-new games like Spore.

Peter, what's the latest on commitments to supporting Intel based Macs? Any plans to back support existing games? I'd imagine each publisher will have their own plans, but I haven't kept up on the latest in this regard. Any significant insight would be appreciated.

All the major game makers for Mac are working on it in one way or the other, bringing their developers up to speed, converting their libraries to work with Xcode if they're not already, and so on. Glenda Adams from Aspyr has articulated the most news publicly about it; she said that they're starting with their most popular titles at the moment (makes sense; those are the ones most likely to have a financial impact when Intel Macs begin to ship), and they're working their way through their back catalog to find games that make sense to upgrade based on the amount of work they'll take and the impact they're likely to have.

My own expectation is that original Mac game makers -- especially shareware and non-retail publishers -- will probably make the biggest impact at first, with the major commercial Mac game publishers following in pretty short order.
