how i lost the world book

My newemac came loaded with OSX 1 and the World Book Encyclopedia was on it. When I had to reformat my hard drive due to my stupidity, I also upgraded, first to OSX 2, then to 2.1. Now I've lost the world book and neither the world book people can tell me what to do nor Apple (since the Apple web site has no contact mechanism). Not a big loss, but any ideas?

Don't you have a World book install CD that came with your Mac? If it was installed on your computer you should have it in your software CD bundle.

World Book, as well as the other extras which came with your Mac are inside the dmg images on the software restore CDs (my 17" iMac has 6 CDs). The best option I have found to reinstall anything from them is to create a new folder on your desktop, drag all the dmg images from each of the CDs (in the Configurations folder) into the new folder, and mount the images by clicking on the first dmg - (iMac HD 1.dmg). Once mounted you can access all the goodies. Good Luck.
