400 mhz powermac g4 won't boot OSX instal disk

I have 10.28 installed on the HD. The powermac only has a CD drive so I connected my PB and used T mode to boot the instal disk. the disk shows up in the system preferences on the powermac, but every time I try to boot the disk the computer boots into 9.2.2. I even tried to intal the OSX onto a Lacie drive. It installed but still won't boot the OSX 10.3. Can anyone help me ?

Thanks

powermac in TDM.
connect to powerbook.
when the powermac is mounted as a drive on desktop of powerbook..
insert Panther DVD into powerbook.
run installer and select the powermac as install target.

DVD's are really cheap, you would be best served by installing one into the powermac to resolve this and many other issues you will have in the future.

when the external is hooked up.. does the PM see it? and if so, can you select it as a startup disk in your preferences?
also, not all FW drives are created equal.. is your bootable ? just because it's FW doesn't make it so.

Re: 400 mhz powermac g4 won't boot OSX instal disk
you said many things before.. but it really wasn't clear.
in your initial post, you refer to "the disk" many times, but which disk wasn't clear.
you have a disk in your PM, a disk in your PB, and the install disk.
perhaps some clarity in what disk where and how would be a bit more helpful instead of just replying

As I said before

clarity has it's benefits.

Have you tried holding down the option key when starting up - you should get a selection of start up options. If the OS9 start up item is highlighted do you see other OSX start up disks?

If so you should be able to select one of the OSX start up disks and click the left arrow to start from the newly selected disk.
