quote:
Are there any external DVD-R-RW drives that will work with the iDVD software?

Many folks are doing this fm enablers, to software hacks...for information purposes only, I've added a couple of educational links...

And there are many many more
Do you know of anyone who has actually burned a DVD using iDVD with an external drive?
quote:
Neither of those links seem relevant to me -- Apple stopped OWC from selling or even supporting their DVD enabler software...

Hmmm...xlr8yourmac has a dvd data base to search...just maybe you overlooked it ![]()

Well, yea, me...w/ a PB 800, PB 667 & G4 Cube 500...and OWCs Mercury...
I too have the OWC drive, but when I had to get a replacement for the defective first drive OWC sent to me the iDVD software stopped working. OWC told me I was out of luck and that they couldn't help me getting iDVD to work with my new drive. Of course the fact that I wouldn't have bought their drive if it hadn't been advertised as iDVD compatible didn't seem to faze them.
quote:
Are you saying that there is some solution in the Drive compatibility database?

Nope...just that other folks want iDVD in there powermacs...and the data base holds many examples...

As you know, OWC got stomped on by Apple...my guess is OWC switched out your DVD burner...removed the key...and disabled dvd enabler...
quote:
...my point was that it is a frustrating situation for me in particular, and your posts implying that there is a work-around don't seem particularly helpful,..

My point is...I'm still burning DVDs w/ iDVD on an external unit connected to my PB 800 (as well as a few other G4s)...using the DVD Enabler fm OWC...

quote:
But I still fail to see how you are helping anyone with this information, since it is impossible to buy enabler-compatible drives.

I've got Jaguar & all my machines...when I want to use the enabler, I just boot fm a different system.
BTW, it sounds like you had a solution...once...
