Re: Aero is a chocolate bar
In reply to:

Only the iMac and the Macbook Pro are capable of running Vista with Aero but they are scraping at the minimums for video and would need RAM added. Forget about the Macbook and the mini. They have to boot up in ghetto mode.

Most PCs built within the past 5 years are capable of running it in ghetto mode. All of them built within the last 3 can do Aero with maybe a RAM and/or video card upgrade. Not a big deal. You can do that easily on a PC. Child's play.

If you read through the spin, you've just said that the situation for Macs and PCs is basically identical. The low end will run in "ghetto mode" and even the higher end ones will need upgrades.

The exception being that you are saying that no PCs in the last three years use video like the Mini. I rather doubt that.

I'm seriously getting tired of lawsuits.

Could it be that the reason their are so many lawsuits is that companies have no fear of serious consequences when they do unethical things? If you hear about a rise in criminal arrests, no one assumes that the problem is too many police.

Steve, not Marketing
It's not Apple Marketing, it is Steve Jobs who decides when an OS gets released. Based on what the developers do, but overall... it is up to Steve.

And your point about "done" is very relevant. Tiger wasn't really complete to the specs it was supposed to have until 10.4.3, six months after the 10.4 release (that's when home folder syncing was able to sync users' Library folder). And it hasn't been fully, reliably stable in most of its functions until 10.4.6... another six months after that. And to be honest, I am really looking forward to 10.4.7. There are still things in Tiger that I need to have fixed.

Re: Symantec sues Microsoft to stop Windows Vista
Maybe Apple should just rename Mac 10.5 to Vista, release it this year, and make EVERYBODY happy.

Phone call to Apple Customer Service:
Customer: Hello, I can't seem to load this new Vista OS onto my PC.
Apple: What PC do you have?
Customer: A Dell blah blah blah.
Apple: Oh you'll need to upgrade your hardware to run the OS.
Customer: That's OK, I'm use to having to do that everytime I buy a new OS.
Apple: Great! Now here's what you need to do...

I want an OS named for one of the sabertoothed cats. How about Smilodon, Hoplophoneus, Nimravus, Machairodus (sounds purrrrrfect), Metailurus, Eusmilus, or one of several dozen others?

I think it'll be a while before we run out of cat names.

OK...I'll bite. There are a lot of good reasons to take serious actions against a person(s) but I feel that all of the senseless small cases make the actual ones look 'bad'. This case doesn't sound too unreasonable, despite the companies involved, as no one 'seems' to be looking to get extra, unwarranted funds. When individuals ask for products and compensation for whatever stupid excuse they can come up with, they just need a good whack to the head.

For example -- I can't recall the specifics -- but wasn't a request of the XBOX 360 overheating lawsuit to get a new XBOX. How does that make sense? The prosecutor made it sound as the XBOX was some very poorly designed product but yet you want one and probably money to compensate for the loss of time, ... in court dealings. Or...The iPod battery lawsuit. McDonald's coffee. Wendy's soup.

Put simply...It feels like to me that it is 2:1 on stupid vs. reasonable cases. That and I'm sure most would reasonably deal with it outside of court if it wasn't some complete BS issue.

...Or...I could just be angry.

No one said you had to use the term but don't try to censor me for doing so. Instead, accept the context of the arguement instead of the mechanics of the terminology.

Troll? If running a network with 500 macs makes me a troll then i proudly claim the title but I think the term you are really looking for is expert. I've had to live with unfinished operating systems since the release of 10. The new releases are always on time but the reliability of features rarely are. There were serious OD issues with 10.4 until 10.4.3 as another poster stated. There remain serious afp issues with the use of server based home directories. Take a look at some of the professional discussion boards and you will see.

Re: Aero is a chocolate bar
Im not aware of any PC that uses integrated video that does not also have an AGP or a PCI-Express slot available to add a video card should the need arise. In that regard the Mini actually is fairly unique. That isnt to say that there isnt the oddball mini copycat out there...somewhere. It just isnt a mainstream thing.

Dont take it too hard. The mini is also the only computer on the market that requires a putty knife to open. Just dont spackle it shut.

Re: Symantec sues Microsoft to stop Windows Vista
While I agree that too many problems between companies end up in litigation, it's unfair to say that some of the lawsuits you mentioned were unjustified. Many times the public is unaware of all the facts.

For example the McDonald's lawsuit has become the poster-child for lawsuits gone amuck. However the facts in the case were very damning for Ronald and his pals:

 • The woman received 3rd degree burns on more than 10% of her body. She stayed in the hospital for weeks, had several skin graft surgeries and was pernamently disfigured.
 • She originally sued to recover her staggering medical expenses, which reached over $25,000. McDonald's offered her a couple hundred dollars.
 • The coffee in question was over 210 degrees. That's significantly hotter than most people serve coffee in their own home, and it was 20 degrees hotter than any restaraunt that the plaintiff found.
 • The plaintiff introduced evidence that showed McDonald's knew its coffee was dangerously hot. It had received numerous customer complaints about it and many other people (hundreds) had been injured, some with 3rd degree burns as well. But McDonald's chose to keep its coffee unordinarily hot to mask the sub-par flavor of its coffee beans. In order to save a couple pennies per cup, McD's used low quality beans, brewed its coffee minimally per-day and kept it super hot to mask the bad flavor of the coffee.

I'm not saying all this because I thought the woman deserved all she got (the judge subsequently cut back the payout). However you do need to know all the facts before saying a lawsuit is unjustified.
