Redesign of logo

I'd be interested in comments on my logo redesign. I have posted it on this link. Thank you.

Re: Redesign of logo
I punched up your logo a bit. You need more depth for the web.

As with most art, use color more boldly than you think you need. I can sen you the png if you like.

Re: Redesign of logo
I like your concept, but I think your art might overpower your information. Have you considered how you'll use this on envelopes, business cards, etc?

Re: Redesign of logo
What kind of screen do you have? I added some shadows to the letters, but on your first link, it seemed not to pop on the page...

Re: Redesign of logo
I think your new logo is beautiful, and quite fitting for your new location in Florida.

I also wouldn't pay too much heed to the comments of the previous posters.

Re: Redesign of logo
I'd have to agree with adobephile. The drop shadows make the text much too heavy and competes with the artwork. If anything, I might try a simpler font with less weight for "graphic design" to give a cleaner look and put the emphasis on your name where it should be. The Su Oaks text is highly stylized and using Lythos(?) for the second line competes with it - your name should always get top billing. Keep in mind, I'm a photographer not a designer but I would limit display fonts to one line.

Re: Redesign of logo
Adobephile and Phil think the drop shadow is too strong. Fine. My real concern is that your color blends are so pastel and fade into the white background without edges that in many settings it can look washed out. A logo is usually sharply defined, works well either in color or b&w and can be used on various locations. The other problem is with the pastel blend to white is that many monitors will be just awful for color, contrast, and color depth. A lot of LCD screens will make it hard to pick out your logo from the background at all. I like the concept, and it speaks to me of a painter's site. But I think the logo will depend heavily on surrounding context to see if it works well or not.

Re: Redesign of logo
I just thought I'd mention (in case you haven't already gotten your cards printed) that the vertical side is all you need. The horizontal side just adds more printing cost, but really doesn't tell me any more than the other side did. (Visually speaking.)

I totally agree with adobephile's & Philbert's comments.

I'm concerned about jefferis' monitor calibration, though. The colors I see are not pastel, but pretty bright without being garish--- fits Florida quite well IMO. Reading between the lines, I'm thinking the other posters here agree?

Re: Redesign of logo
I really like your new logo. It is very attractive and your business card in nice. I love the idea of being able to tell your customers about the image and what you do. I would suggest however that you leave off all other text from the front (the side with the picture) except for maybe "Photo Imaging... Photo Correction... Collage" I say this becasue all of your information is already on the other side and the text is causing the image and that side of the card to look muddled and not visual pleasing. Love the other side. I think leaving off the text will ultimately give you more image to discuss with your clients.
As for printing costs there are a number of companies around that can print 5,000 4-color process, two sides, heavy stock, glossy business cards for less than $200 and that is a STEAL. That is where I got my cards froma nd I LOVE THEM!!!! I will be more than happy to pass along this info to any fellow mac users on this group. After all, we do have the best graphic design computers on the market and we create the best graphics in the industry, why not print them for a fraction of the cost and show the rest of the world.
