Re: H&R Block TaxCut coming back to the Mac
I've used just about every TurboTax product for both Mac and Windows and used to complain about Intuit all the time.

So then I went and tried the H&R Block TaxCut for Windows... What a total piece of junk! Monkeys randomly smashing keys could write better software. It was so bad I went to get the 30 day refund.

I no longer complain about Intuit and I'd never consider any of H&R Block's TaxCut products again.

Screw H&R. They drop the Mac, took a look around, saw that Apple really is selling computers, and now they come crawling back to steal a few bucks. They absolutely could care less about the Mac platform, and I could care less about them!

Re: H&R Block TaxCut coming back to the Mac
I have been using TaxCut for years. Last year I made a feature comparison between TurboTax and TaxCut. I did not see much difference. I for one am satisfied with TaxCut and am glad they are back on the Mac. Since they are bundeling the Mac and PC versions together they will not be able to gage Mac sales. Interesting.

They will track Mac vs. Windows users as they update the program shortly after installation.

You gotta spend $60 to e-file? Nuts! I'll do the online filing anyway since I can't itemize.

I used TaxCut for several years and thought it was better than TurboTax (which I had used years earlier). When they discontinued TC, I was unhappy, but moved over to TT. At this point, there's no way I'll go back--using TT year-after-year it will move over most of your information so you don't have to re-enter it. Sorry, H&R Block, you had your chance...

So, the efile version seems to only add efiling and nothing else, and does so "for free", yet it costs $30 more than the non-efile version. Uh, OK.

I agree. I was happy with TC, as it moved data from year to year and wouldn't have dropped it without a compelling reason. Last year they dropped the Mac - a compelling reason. So now I'm happy using Turbo Tax and probably won't switch back without a compelling reason.

This was just stupid of them.

With the availability of online products like taxact.com I do not think this will be all that useful.

I concur completely. I used taxcut since 1991 and was forced to move to TurboTax and was reasonably happy with it. I see no reason to change back now.

Re: H&R Block TaxCut coming back to the Mac
A few years ago I purchased the H&R TC for Business Windows edition. The box said it could do W2s and 1099s.

If you're not familiar with the Federal requirements, you can not submit 1099s without the 1096 transmittal form.

TaxCut did NOT include 1096 forms!! I even called them to complain about it and they said to get the forms directly from the IRS. Wha? I purchased the program because it was too late to get the forms from the IRS. They explained that the IRS did not give them proper authorization to print this form.

The 1099 forms will not be accepted by the IRS if you can't submit them with the 1096 forms.

Luckily at the last minute I found a copy of TurboTax Business which always includes any possible needed form which are ALL suitable for printing and IRS submission.

H&R TaxCut was totally useless. I figured that if they couldn't include such basic and simple business functionality, then I couldn't trust any of their other tax packages.

Not to mention the overall slow and clunky performance, constant crashing, having to re-enter company name/address on every single form, etc. It seemed to me that TaxCut was just another way to print your info on pre-printed IRS forms using your computer as a fancy typewriter.

Re: H&R Block TaxCut coming back to the Mac
I used TurboTax since 1992. A few yearsw ago, I was irritated that Intuit was charging more for the Mac version than the Windoze version - so I switched to Tax Cut. It was a bit of a pain, because some of my data didn't transfer. So I did it manually and used TaxCut until it was discontinued on Mac. I went back to TurboTax and had to manually transfer data again. Sorry, H&R Block, not going through it again!

Re: H&R Block TaxCut coming back to the Mac
I love how a company makes a half assed product then blames the mac user base for failure. No, it's just that your Windows base is used to crap software.
