Quote of the day - Ballmer
Maybe this is the reason for the 200

"The goal is to not have service packs unless we need them," he said. "There is no reason to believe we are going to need one, but we always have needed them, so we are perfectly prepared to do one at the appropriate time."

He added: "This will be the most secure, safest version of Windows we have ever done. The need for critical updates will go down."

Re: Hundreds turn out to welcome Windows Vista in Tokyo
Hmmm, 200 people in three locations on a night that really wasn't all that cold... does all this sound like a lot of spin? When Apple opened their store in Ginza there were literally thousands of people waiting. Mind you, that was a store opening not an operating system release but it reinforces the idea that a lot of people here (I live in Japan, next to Tokyo) are treating the new OS from Micro$oft as a "maybe later" item. A lot of businesses here are still using Win 98.

So I thought EVERY update addressed critical issues...

Maybe it's just me....

Ok guys, time to stop sounding like brain dead morons. Re-read the article, it was a line of about 200 at ONE store. There were probably lines as large at many of the other stores that were selling it. If you are going to criticize you should compare it to the recent WoW launch and figure out which of those more people spent money on.

Re: Hundreds turn out to welcome Windows Vista in Tokyo
I'm surprised no one has commented on the "oh-so-telling" reference made of Microsoft's cherished customers. Darren Huston, president and chief executive officer of Microsofts Japanese unit said, Really, just dramatic sell-through and certainly above anything I expected but theyre a really, really critical audience to test..."

If I was a Tokyo resident lining up to buy a company's product, I don't think I'd appreciate being thought of as an "audience to test" -- just some sort of MS guinea pig -- by that company's executive officer in Japan. What was that guy thinking? Hey Toshi, what does it feel like to be just another "anecdotal data point"? Really, who talks like that anyway? What's with the "dramatic sell-through"? Whatever happened to "their selling like hotcakes!"? When am I going to stop asking rhetorical questions? out...

Some say it was 80 people
"Earlier in Tokyo, about 80 people lined up Monday night at the Bic Camera Department Store to become among the world's first consumers to own Vista. Celebrities and executives were on hand as a large-screen TV displayed a countdown to the midnight launch.

The second person in line, Fumihiko Koyama, 33, waited three hours and was hoping the new operating system will make his work in Web design easier.

"My expectations are very high for Vista," he said. "I want to try it out because it's new.""

Since you're responding to my post, I'll assume you're addressing me as part of your "guys" group. That said, perhaps you can stop acting like a brain dead moron by re-reading the post you replied to and show me where I indicated multiple stores were involved.

Sigh... it seems the point of the post was lost on the dense. The lack of excitement for Vista was besides the point. Of course, WoW generates a different level of excitement. The point was that a good portion of the "interest" probably had more to do with the paid entertainment as opposed to Vista itself.

I guess what should have been asked, how many of the 200 people DID buy the new OS?

krizoitz,

does the above line put me in the not brain dead moron section?

Be nice it's my birthday.

Mr. Warren Buffett

I recommend that you write Mr. Warren Buffett and thank him for donating the 32 Billion + to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Do you realize a gift of that size can, if properly managed, benefit the World for hundreds of years to come. Personally I have utmost respect for Mr. Buffett because instead of giving the money to the U.S. Treasury in the form of death taxes he choose to control where the money goes and what causes it will benefit by giving it away.

Happy Birthday...
...Beatles - Birthday lyrics

You say it's your birthday
It's my birthday too--yeah
They say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party.

I would like you to dance--Birthday
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance-Birthday
I would like you to dance--Birthday
Dance

You say it's your birthday
Well it's my birthday too--yeah
You say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Oh will I get into copyright trouble?

BTW - I think that it's great if people get excited and wait in line to buy Vista. Good for them and their enthusiam. Need more passion and enthusiam like this in life, for death comes soon enough.
