I'm not surprised that the Wii is outselling Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. It's affordable while the others are not. At least not for the average consumer.

Then it's a good thing that there are some very not-average consumers out there, like myself, that has all three systems already. I know several people with two of the three this time around already.

This is not about pricing. This is about perception. Myself and many of my friends that have Wii's and some other system very rarely ever play the Wii anymore. It's a niche that will quickly grow dusty if Nintendo doesn't start putting out some quality titles real quick. The Wii is there for the casual/social gamer market.

Nintendo's timing was great too. The Wii debuted just when "casual gaming" was starting to gain fans outside the usual gaming audience. Throw in the unique controller and better price point and it becomes a hit.

The DS success it making an impact. Sony last Tuesday lower the price on the PSP by $30, I was considering the PSP before the price drop. But now I will probably get it sooner.

The casual gamer market is a niche within the video game market, but it is a niche which expanded and continues to expand greatly. It's a niche that drew in (and again, continues to draw in) new video game purchasers. My last console purchase was a PS2 so many years ago; I really didn't plan on buying a new console. Then I played the Wii and was more than happy to give Nintendo my cash for a new system and accessories. Myself and many of my friends who are casual gamers who might not otherwise have considered a new system purchase, bought Wiis and continue to play them. We're not the traditional hardcore gamers, but we're part of a niche that was languishing / unexplored prior to Nintendo's success with the Wii.
