Lost 2 Yrs Email in Entourage - Time for New App??

Been using Entourage X for some years on my PMG4/OSX 10/4/9...

This weekend had problem opening Entourage X, said to do Typical Rebuild, which I tried to do but kept getting message at end of process that it couldn't create new database due to lack of hard drive space. This seemed odd as I had plenty of HD space (+/-20GB free..)...

If you want to know more about this disaster you can either read my post on the 911 forum section here or over at the MS Entourage newsgroup:

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft...8b17f043fa483e9

Anyway, reason for this post is to ask for input/thoughts/opinions on whether it's time to use another email app now...starting to question the whole approach that MS Entourage uses of storing everything; emails, contacts, calendar items, etc in one large database file...if that file goes bad and you can't rebuild, you're SOL!! (Unless of course, you have a fairly recent backup file of database available...)

So, wondering do all or most email apps store emails in one database file like Entourage or do they use some other method, less likely to get corrupted, etc???

If so, what other app(s) should I check out???

Or should I stay the course with Entourage and maybe upgrade to newer version??? and of course, make frequent backups of database and store on other HD or CD, etc....

Thanks for any and all input!

Mark
Frustrated Entourage User....

You have just articulated the number one complaint that users seem to have about Entourage. And since it is not unheard of for Entourage's database to go boom, some folks avoid using Entourage for this reason.

The latest version of Apple's Mail.app keeps individual e-mails as separate files on your computer, so if Mail's database is damaged, you don't lose anything. Some people like GyazMail for the same reason. But since Mail.app updated its interface, there isn't much about GyazMail to recommend it over Mail.app.

Entourage turned my Mac's mail into Applesauce
I too just experience this YESTERDAY. Arghhh!

When I switched in December from using an IBM tower as my "desktop/primary" machine to a MacBook Pro (with Intel chip and Parallels so I can run a few Windows programs when necessary while keeping Mac for most utilities ... all at the same time), I first used Apple Mail ... not impressed ... and then Eudora (little clunkier than its Windows version) ... and then Entourage.

Things seemed to be going great until yesterday when, instead of all my email, dozens of filters, lots of SENT mail archives, sigs, account settings, etc., all I had was a "Welcome to Entourage" note in a totally "tabla rasa" (blank slate) state.

Sorry I didn't check this forum sooner to find out it was something to worry about.

Ironically, I had just bought some EMC Retrospect Express software to install on my machine this week for backups. Did NOT get a chance to install it before this first great reason to have a backup.

Sigh.
