AirPort Extreme vs. AirPort Express

What can AirPort Extreme do that AirPort Express can't?

Is this possible/workable:

Cable modem connects to 4-port wired router, connect wired router to 1 desktop computer and AirPort Express, thus creating a wireless network.

The Airport Express will definitely work for what you described. Be sure to turn off "Distribute IP addresses" on the AX (in Airport Admin), so that all computers get their IP addresses from the first router (they'll be in the same network that way).

The only other thing that Airport Extreme Base can do is also be router for ethernet-connected computers.
