Pixelmator is blistering-fast on the latest PowerPC and all Intel-based Macs.

Even on the GMA 950? I doubt it.

Horribly lacking in Photoshop (yes, even the latest) is the total absence of Automator tools. At least these guys give you some!

The software uses open source code as well

Since it is using Open Source are they planning on turning their code back to the OpenSource community?

I doubt they will. Take a look at their support page. They're using phpBB, and phpBB requires the site developer to include a copyright notice (phpBB) as part of the conditions of use. Pixelmator doesn't do that.

I did a check on their postcode (W1J 6HL). Turns out they're in a very expensive area of London (2 Lansdowne Row, Mayfair). It's smack in the middle of Mayfair, 2-3 minutes walk away from Grosvenor Square and the US embassy, with countless posh hotels and michelin-starred restaurants in the area. I do wonder how can they afford to pay rent when they're a startup?

They've got Russian namesnothing against themand they didn't seem to write in English very well. I did a search for the postcode, and it revealed a Russian company (with a different name) based in the same office suite! http://www.hpstrategic.ru/html/kontakti.html How dodgy is that?

We'll see what happens in a few weeks' time, but in the meantime, I'm not putting any hopes on it. Gruber thinks that this is vapourware, and I think so too.

Pixelmator is indeed based on some open source libraries. However their licenses allow us to use them in commercial applications.

The registration address of Pixelmator Team is indeed in expensive place. However this is not our office since we are spending most of the time in Lithuania (we are citizens of Lithuania). The reasons behind this are very simple. First of all there are no Apple Stores here (only resellers). That means that we can't use ADC Hardware Discounts. Plus UK has much better e-commerce services (better pricing, fraud protection, etc). Software business is much more developed in UK than in Lithuania. By counting all pluses and minuses it's easy to decide where to register software company and since EU laws allow us to freely open business and work anywhere why not to do so? As of Russian names you're wrong. Our names are pure Lithuanian ones and I really see no reason why this might be important to anyone. And you're right about our English - we are not fluent speakers.

As of vaporware I really have no idea how to prove you that it is not. I've read Grubers comments and I understand that Pixelmator may seem too good to be a real application. However, this year we are attending WWDC and we are going to give a sneak peek at Pixelmator. Come by and see yourself!

Aidas
