"Unofficial" Apple WWDC 10.5 predictions thread !

I predict that 10.5 will have an advanced native/virtualization that will run Windows and possibly other OS's with a quick flip option.

Similar to the wonderful Parallel's V software but with the ease of quick user switch and possibly completely native (option to have both OS's running natively in the background).

Gonna take a lot of juice to do this... but I believe they will have it built in

Even though we have bootcamp, it is still a pain in the ass to reboot. Plus the fact that a lot of things just do not work... even with updated drivers, etc.

I believe this native, non-reboot, Windows option will knock Apple's shares up another 20-25 points and 10's of thousands will switch this year alone due to the new features in 10.5

Well, that is just one of my many predictions. This is just for fun, so no mud slinging, etc.

Just have fun and post what you honestly think will be shown on Monday

Here are some to get you started, in case you are a current convert : http://www.macworld.com/2006/06/firstlooks/leopardwishlist/index.php

I hate to be negative, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Apple to get into the virtualization market.

1. The support costs are going to be large.
2. There are two companies currently actively, heavily competing. The pace that Parallels and VMware are currently at is almost unbelieveable.
3. The third party solutions are inexpensive and only affect customers that are currently interested, rather than forcing the cost onto Leopard upgraders and future Mac owners.

What it basically comes down to is the fact that Apple is getting exactly what they want out of third party development without needing to support them financially. I just don't see a compelling business case for Apple to do it.

Added later: And to be honest, I wouldn't want them to get into it. They could deliver a virtualization feature that would effectively kill the growing third party market, which will, although better, fail due to the fact that it will cost and isn't included in box. Virtualization software for Macs would stagnate.

Steve Jobs will say bam or boom or whatever the hell it is he says. He may also say 'one more thing' towards the end of his keynote.

Here is what I think happens (not that i matter lol)

1 - First we get Leopard preview

2 - iLife and iWork updated tells a few of their features not much time spent on these two

3 - 10.4.10 released available today

4 - Mac Mini Update: All models with 1GB RAM Low end now 2.0Ghz Core duo high end 2.16Ghz Core duo (thats Core Duo no Core 2 yet)

One More thing..

New iMac
Santa Rosa
All models get 2GB RAM except for low end with 1GB
Low end still has intel graphics but its the updated GMA 3100 all others use nvidia GPUs (since ATI is now AMD)
No LED displays yet

my 2 cents
