Re: iPhone launch marred by activation delays
i was already an att customer and was just moving my existing number from my old phone over to the new phone. the activation process took over 14 hours. the activation screen just said "your iphone will require more time to activate". i started it friday night and my phone wasn't activated until saturday afternoon. i called att saturday morning and they told me that everything was in place and the new sim card was activated BUT the phone itself wasn't. the only way for the phone to activate is for apple to register the phone and for itunes to send me the link. so the problems i had was an apple problem and not an att problem.

If you depend on your cell phone to keep you in touch with either personal contacts or as part of your business, being without it for even a few hours can be a serious problem. Scoff if you want, but it's much less of an inconvenience and much more of a major crisis for a lot of people these days.

...but if the phone's that important to you, particularly for business, then more fool you for trying to switch on the first day of the launch. I'm not trying to defend AT&T, but when a phone is that important you should wait a few days for the dust to settle.

Don't understand this sentence:

AT&T was not available to comment in Europe on Monday morning, and Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The "Europe" reference makes no sense!

After reading over 1,300 posts and 57 pages of activation issues over the weekend, here's a summary of what I observed:

Thanks for your concise summary, some of us aren't able to look at all the postings so you have done and excellent service.
