Re: Google to buy Postini for $625 million
I run my tax prep & accounting company with Excel. I need to be able to run & modify my apps at anytime & anywhere. That means I may be in the mountains where only satellite service will work. I be at a customer's house that has no internet service. Some may not have a home telephone line anymore, just a simple cell phone. I'm not ready to have the applications I need to run & modify at anytime day or night & when I am anywhere, many of the place with no practical internet services, how sill they take care of those times & places. It's good that they are thinking of online security for their good apps.

The IRS will not allow tax forms to be emailed in because of lack of security with their email system. Its good to hear that Google is trying to keep their online software to be as secure as they can make it.

"One of the first things potential customers ask about is offline access to applications," he said.

I don't understand the reasoning behind this statement. First of all, the article at hand is looking at Google Apps from the viewpoint of business users. When are business users not online? They are always online unless there's a system failure, in which case many functions besides Google apps are temporarily unavailable. It seems to me that the only users who have a reasonable need to work offline with any regularity are dial-up customers, who surely constitute a shrinking minority.
