That's not something to boast about and pass off as some amazing feat when you have over 90% market share in the OS world. Having a virtual monopoly in a market will make things like that happen.

They Microsoft have repeated over and over again that they are not threatened by Apple, yet they say things like this which basically mean that they are threatened by Apple. One thing they forgot to realize though: Apple doesn't care. Apple is not trying to gain a majority market share. They are a high-end computer and electronics company who is not going to release crapware to get a better market share.

Nor are they going to dumpster dive ahem Bill Gates ahem to get code from competitors.

This seems desperate and kind of pathetic. A company in Microsoft's position as market leader shouldn't even have to address Apple's success unless they truly feel threatened.

It's also an argument that is essentially meaningless to Apple users. Why does would matter to us that Continental Airlines is upgrading to Vista?

So what.. lets talk percentages and trends, not absolute numbers. Sheer MS spin here if you ask me. If I recall correctly, they were well behind on Vista uptake compared to their own Windows XP launch. That tells you much more than this propaganda.

If even Ballmer feels like one billion computers running Windows is a "mind-numbing" concept, imagine how the rest of us feel!

60 million copies of a bad, buggie OS, just what the world needs now. I have put Visa through its paces and would not recommend it for another year. I find it amazing how a software company (Microsoft) with all the money it has to hire the best, either doesn't get the best or doesn't allow the best to do their best in creating software.

We can only hope that Microsoft sells 120 million copies so twice as many people are bitching about it.

Yeah, and there are more cockroaches than people. Doesn't mean I'd want to be a cockroach.

Well, I certainly hope that none of those Vista computers at Continental Airlines have anything to do with keeping their flights in the air or on schedule!

said Steve Ballmer, Microsofts CEO. If you stop and think about that for a second, by end of our fiscal year 08 there will be more PCs running Windows in the world than there are automobiles, which to me is kind of a mind-numbing concept.

For the first time, I agree with Steve Ballmer - using Windows is indeed a "mind-numbing concept."

Since he brought up cars, let's use that analogy. In the 70's, Ford sold many more Pinto's than Porsche sold 911's. Which would you rather own?

And of course, it's still impossible to find someone who enjoys working with Vista, unlike OS X users.

That would give a whole new meaning to the phrase "Blue Screen of Death."

And how many of those shipped have uninstalled for XP or Linux? Vista still has to many incompatibilities with business and other software.

Steve... Who? Ballmer?
Steve Ballmer. Does he still work for Microsoft? If you stop and think about it for a second, that's pretty amazing. Come on, it's just a second, stop and think about it! Steve Ballmer still has a job.

While we're talking numbers, consider this: if you took all the grains of sand in the world and carefully laid them end to end, one by one, the tediousness of that task would roughly equal how I feel working on a Windows machine.
