Updates to iLife always seem to depress me because they focus so much on what is unimportant and ignore that which users have been screaming for over the years. This looks like another what of those years.

I'm wondering if the Family Pack is available at the retail stores today.

You should have gone scuba diving with that engineer that rewrote iMovie. At least you would see some pretty fish.

Well hummmppph. iMovie requires G5 or intel mac. So much for my existing first gen mini and my 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook. Guess I have to buy new macs to join the iLife 08 party.

Yes, admiring God's creation always gets me out of moods. Good advice.
Now don't get me wrong here. I am glad they finally did something with iLife, but Apple gives us Spotlight, and guess what? All the time we took to annotate our photos with Spotlight comments do not work with the search in iPhoto. How ridiculous is that? And that is just one. Ugh, I need to turn on my SereneScreen and view some pretty fish.

Simultaneous input tracks?
Anyone know if they've updated the number of simultaneous ins? I think the last version was 8 Real instruments and 1 Software instrument, correct?

I wonder if iWeb can edit existing sites now. That's the killer for me that keeps me booting into Windows for FrontPage again and again.

Yes I know FP is rubbish technically, doesn't mean I can give it a miss and still have my job though.

Does anybody know if the HD editing is now full HD (1920x1080) or is it still 1440x180

Biggest untold detail: GarageBand is now 24bit capable. No mention of supported bit rates, though.
Now I'll have to run out and get myself iLife '08 and a new audio interface, but I'll really appreciate the added headroom.

Re: Apple ushers in iLife '08 suite
I just bought a new iMac 3 weeks ago. Is there any chance of getting a discount on the new iLife?

Re: Apple ushers in iLife '08 suite
I agree? Any chance of discount?

I bought a new Macbook Pro in June, and have spent last 2 months painstakingly compiling photos and videos using iLife 06 to create a mammoth DVD of a 6 month-round-the-world backpacking adventure! (half way finished the project).
Had a few glitches with all the apps as well!!! I really hope iLife 08 isn't LEAPS and BOUNDS better than 06!! If I knew it was on the way I might have waited. Does anyone know how compatible 08 will be with old projects from 06 ?? I am tempted to stop work and wait to see how 08 is? Worth the $79 to 'see' ???
Thanks, Alessandro

Jeesh people. It hasn't even shipped yet! Just give everyone some time to get the thing and be able to work with it and then questions will be answered. (Sorry if I sound rude, but I've read like 10 people posting in the last hour asking all kinds of questions about the new software offerings)

No discount.

We all knew it was on the way. The question was when exactly. I was starting to believe they were waiting for the next major OS release.

As for your project that I'm guessing is an iMovie project, moving it to iMovie 08 may be a big pain, as transitions and titling are not copied over. Watch Apple's "Import from iMovie HD" tutorial to see what I'm talking about. This is very disappointing.

Re: Apple ushers in iLife '08 suite
You know what's crap?

System Requirements

Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor;

but....

iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster;

If what you are putting out isn't completely compatible, THEN DON'T SAY IT'S COMPATIBLE!!!!!!!

It is completely retarded to put out an application or suite of applications and then say that only some of them are compatible. Does Apple have some Windows guys working for them now?
