Usually to post pictures on a forum, I'll use a separate free photo hosting service completely, usually Photobucket or Tinypic.

password protection only works on .mac hosted websites I think.

Correct, but with the new version's support for personal domains, it shouldn't really be an issue anymore.

But.... with flickr et al you can password some pictures and/or sets, leave others open to the public. Can't seem to do this with iWeb???

I haven't played with it myself yet (I have the software, just not the time), but I was under the impression that you could password protect specific Web Galleries with the new iWeb/.Mac. I could be wrong. Can someone verify?

What if Gary (any person) used FileChute?
http://www.yellowmug.com/filechute
($14.95 - Free trial available)

He won't have to password protect his web site.
His .Mac account can still be used to store the image files he wants to share with the general public.
All he has to do is give out the "Short URL" to keep his .Mac name private.
FileChute is also a handy alternative to Emailing large files.

Just my two cents...

Oops! I'll correct myself...
When you use the short URL from FileChute, you are forwarded to the long URL and your .Mac name is therefore displayed.
So, that won't be your solution.

Re: Walled-off iWeb
To Be honest I am not even sure the question was answered correctly!

Walling of your website is one thing, but what if you wanted to have certain pages available to the public and others password protected?

I have no issues with people seeing my welcome pages, but if you want to password protect just your photo's you can't which I think is a massive shortfall for iWeb over Rapid weaver which can do this.

Shame.
