You mentioned the GIMP, but you should look at Seashore, a Mac-only image editor based on the GIMP. Very simple, and without the crazy GIMP interface.

I'd like to see Seashore, the open source (and free) Macified version of The GIMP, included in this comparative survey:

The fate of my two favorite classic Mac apps, AppleWorks and PageMaker, has soured me on proprietary software, with its closed formats always in danger of abandonment for reasons having nothing to do with either the quality/usability of the application, or users' needs. Of course I like open source in principle, but the best part is that their open formats will live as long as users want to use them, i.e. more or less indefinitely. (Sorry for the run-on paragraph and non-clickable link; the forum software doesn't seem to be working right.)

What a coincidence that Pixemator was just released today. Looking forward to trying it out myself, and also to hear what James has to say. I am most interested to learn what the differences are between Acorn & Pixelmator are. One of them will be getting my money shortly.

How does Acorn compare to Photoshop Elements? What features are absent in Acorn vs. PE or vice versa.

I'm really tired of waiting for the universal version of PE and Acorn may be all I need.

Graphic converter is an absolutely horrible editor, if you ask me. But it's great for... well, converting formats.

Wrong again. In years past, there was Digital Darkroom from Silicon Beach. Then there was PhotoShop. I've got the floppy discs to prove it ( and an SE with 6.0.8 to run it ).

seashore is good, simple and easy to learn for someone who doesn't want to deal with the crazy gimp interface or x11, i haven't had any problems with seashore, and i'm sure it will keep getting better with time... definitely one to check out
