Connecting To Server

My school is doing the One-To-One program with Apple, so we all have laptops. And there is a server for our school on our laptops where we can pick up assignments and drop them off. I've gotten into it at school, but I'm having trouble doing it at home. When I click on the folder and then click on the server, it says: "Connection failed.
The server may not exist or is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."

I need to drop something off in one of my teacher's folders on it before the weekend is over, but I can't. Is it possible that it'll only work if I actually go to my school because then it'll pick up the signal or whatever?

Re: Connecting To Server
Sure, it's entirely possible the server is only accessible from the school local network and not over the internet. You need to ask whomever admins the server about how to access it (if possible) when not on the schools internal local network.

At school do you need a password to access the server volume? If not, it almost surely is NOT accessible off the school's local network (as it shouldn't be in that case).
