AOL on iPhone

When I read an AOL email on the iPhone it seems to either disappear from my computer or end up in "recently deleted mail." Anyone know whether there's a way to insure that an email read on the iPhone will remain in New Mail on the iMac?

When I read an AOL email on my iPhone, there is an option to "Mark Unread." When I select that, the email still appears on my Mac as if it has not been read.
