Back to My Mac: Apple's Internet mashup

The underpinnings of Back to My Mac are fairly dense, but interesting, as Apple is mashing up a lot of protocols to punch tunnels through Internet architecture that wasn't designed to be tunneled through. Join Glenn Fleishman for a technical tour behind the scenes of Back to My Mac. more

Good explanation. That would be the only feature of .Mac I'd use. Is there any way to enable Back to My Mac w/o .mac if I have my own servers?

Not at the moment. Although technically there's no particular reason why, with the right DNS servers, you couldn't get this to work, but Apple hasn't provided any hooks to make that happen. It's possible they'll release more information to developers and to enterprises.

There's a hack to "get back to your mac without paying for it" at lifehacker.com (posted March 11, 2008).
