iPhone purchase advice

I apologize if this topic has been discussed to death but I would like some feedback from the Mac community.
My Verizon contract ends next week. I'm dead set on getting an iPhone.
My dilemma is when??
I don't need to wait for the 3g later this year. But do I wait until the Macworld Conference. I can't imagine a big update to the phone besides capacity.
I'm moving more towards purchasing now than after Macworld.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks.

At this point, I doubt there would be an iPhone update at Expo. With that said, I never buy anything from Apple within about 90 days of Expo

Re: iPhone purchase advice
I wouldn't be surprised if a new iPhone is announced at Expo for release in the spring. It takes a little while to get FCC approval, and the market is abuzz with rumors of the 3G iPhone. Perhaps Apple will release a 16GB version to "tide sales over" until the 3G version is out, but I can't see them releasing a 3G model so soon.

Re: iPhone purchase advice
I have a feeling that 3G and other big enhancements are still a ways off. I wouldn't expect a radically improved version of the iPhone to be shipping before June 2008 or even in the fall.

While I find it hard to believe that Steve Jobs won't touch on the iPhone at Macworld, it seems very unlikely that a 3G iPhone will be shipping anytime soon. Hopefully the existing model will be updated with 16GB or even 32GB of memory in January or February, but only Apple knows for sure.

I'd just go for it unless you don't think you could live with EDGE and no GPS compatibility. The SDK in February should open the existing iPhone up to a whole new world of possibilities!

Re: iPhone purchase advice
Why wait, this is Apple! Either way you will be disappointed. If you wait, nothing will happen. But if you get one, something may happen. So just get one.

I bought my wife an iPhone for Christmas, which she received early because here Sprint phone took an unexpected dump.

I have never seen a woman get so excited over an electronic gadget in my life! She has not put that thing down for three days now.

And when I did get it away from her, all I could say was WOW! So, she went out and bought one for me! The best thing about the iPhone on my end, besides all of the cool stuff it does, is that we actually get a signal at our house! There have been so many people out to our house with cell phones, and none have ever really worked here, including my Sprint. But, AT&T suddenly works "in" my house, and that one spot in the middle of my driveway that everyone else uses.

Get the iPhone and enjoy the WOW factor!

What I suspect is coming is a 16GB iPhone then later in the year the 3G iPhone. I don't think at 16GB iPhone is all that exciting though.

Re: iPhone purchase advice
With less than a month to go, I'd try to stick it out, and I'll tell you why:

* Last year, I bought a 30gb video ipod; 4 days later they dropped $50
* In January, I bought a Mac Pro; about a week later the 8 core came out.
* I then bought Final Cut Studio; 5 days later, FCS 2 was announced
* I bought an Airport Extreme router; a couple weeks later, they added Gigabit ethernet
* I bought a black 8GB 2g Nano; 6 days later, the video Nano came out
* 2 weeks ago, I bought an iPhone. You do the math...LOL

You might want to stay away from the stock market.

It's not math that's just plain bad luck.

Re: iPhone purchase advice
My thoughts: MacWorld Jan will bring a 16gb iPhone, that's my guess. 3G will come probably in June. 16gb will probably be $100 more, no idea on 3G. So I don't think you will see a 8gb price break with the intro of the 16gb. So buying now is an issue of with 3g or without.
