I'm going to go out on a limb with my prediction, a gaming Mac (which may coincide with the MMMM).

How soon before Apple TV or Mini Mac comes with a built in digital TV tuner?

Time Machine back up drive?

iPhone with a decent camera and video capture that uploads direct to YouTube and social networking sites?

Apple finally releases an iPod upgrade that allows the remote menu button to work with the dock?

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: Looking ahead to 2008
It seems these aren't so much predictions as they are wish lists...

Mine would be a tablet Mac and free, Apple-designed, electronic health record application with hosting of peoples' health care information on .mac -- this would do more for society than any other gadget in history.

...or maybe an iPhone I could afford -- unlock the thing and let carriers subsidize the cost with my cell-phone plan. My current contract is up with Verizon... why can't I get a free iPhone like I did with our 3 RAZRs? I know, "everywhere else in the world people PAY for their phones." Well we're not everywhere else, bubb, we're Americans... and we like the cost of our cell phones hidden in our lengthy contracts.

New iSight camera and new Cinema Displays with built-in iSights: Apple killed the standalone iSight and has yet to replace it, and the only displays with built-in cameras are those on the MacBook and MacBook Pro.

Not to quibble here but if you include MB and MBP should you not include iMacs?

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: Looking ahead to 2008
1. New Apple TV with 5.1 surround sound.
2. Unlocked iPhone in Canada so that Americans can easily buy them and Apple will not be violating there exclusive contract with AT&T.
3. iTV, TV with Apple TV Built in.
4. Mac Touch 7" iPOD touch \ MacBook hybrid.
5. HD content on iTunes. (we already have in in the POD cast section).
6. iMac Pro quad core 24" iMac.
7. iMac with room for second Hard Disk (Think Time Machine).
8. Apple will be sued by some guy who had an idea that he could not figure out how to do so he got a Patent and waited for some smart person to make into reality. Then he waited a few more years till there was plenty of then on the market, called a layer and is waiting for the money to roll in.

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: Looking ahead to 2008
Here is what is on my wish list for the new year:

1. Apple TV DVR combo. This would be very nice, and I think quite doable. With the price of hard drives coming down so much, bumping up the hard drive size does not seem that hard. The challenge, I think, will be getting everything inside the current Apple TV box, since Steve seems to have a problem making things bigger.

2. Expandable Mac Pro-style tower Mac at a more affordable price. I would love to have tower that I could upgrade the video card in, add more RAM (with out having to pay twice as much for laptop RAM), etc, without having to drop $2,500 on a Mac Pro, since I don't need all of the processing power it has. However, based on what Apple has been doing over the past few years, and Steve's statements that "all-in-ones are they way of the future", I don't think this is very likely. What I DO think is somewhat likely is a cheeper entry price for the MacPro. CPU prices are dropping all the time, along with RAM and hard drives and all that stuff, so I would very much like to see (and not be surprised by) a MacPro at the $1,999.00 price (or preferably, even lower!).

3. Solid state hard drives in MacBook Pro. With the prices of flash memory coming down all across the board, it just seems like a matter of time before we start seeing them integrated into main stream laptops. They offer so many advantages, such as speed, power efficiency, and durability. Will it happen soon? No, but I hope that by this time next year I will be able to order a MacBook Pro with a SSD as at least a built to order option.

4. Quad-core MacBook Pro. While we are on the subject of the MacBook Pro, I would love to see one of Intel's new quad-core CPU's find its say into this sexy little beast. Ever since Intel announced the power figures for the Core line of CPU's I have been waiting for a quad-core mobile chip, and I have as yet been disappointed. Hopefully with the new 45nm CPU's coming out, this dream can finally turn into a reality.

5. Cheeper Cinema Displays. These things are dead sexy and I would love to hook my MacBook Pro up to a 23" ACD and see what Photoshop looks like with all that screen space. However, until Apple drops the prices to a more reasonable level, this will have to remain a dream.

6. Updated Mac Pro's This one seems like a safe bet, since pretty much everyone seems to be betting that Apple will update their Mac Pro line at or before Macworld this January. Here are some of the things I would like to see in that upgrade:

a. Cheeper entry point.
b. Build-in hardware RAID on most/all models
c. Cheeper 8-core option.
d. e-SATA.
e. SAS hard drive option.
f. Next-gen video cards (Can anyone say GeForce 8800GTX?)
g. Blu-Ray.

Re: Editors' Notes Weblog: Looking ahead to 2008
To be fair I think MacWorld should have posted my full prediction for 2007...

"None of the "safe" predictions here. iPOD to have screen almost full size
that is touch sensitive... has on screen navigation like the current
wheel. Video over the entire screen when activated (viewed sideways).
Better contacts and calendar and well very much like a Newton (whatever
that was). In other words, an iPOD, Palm and PSP all rolled into one.
Hang on a minute isn't that what Sony are trying to do with the PSP?
Maybe a "safe" prediction after all. Oh yeh and chuck in a phone as
well."
This makes my batting average pretty good for 2007 so here is my 2008 prediction(s)...

iPod
and iPhone to have user removable batteries, 3G iPhone announced, iLife
updated with iDatabase with iWeb integration, iPod to get infrared
output and be turned into a universal remote control, Steve announces
he is standing down as CEO but will remain on the board, Apple shares
top $250.

Talk about "unsafe predictions." I think I have probably got a little carried away but, oh well, time will tell.

Hope to see you at the MacWorld in January... I will be the old fart with the WWT4 badge...

PLEASE NOTE: When I made my list I had not read any of the predictions above.
I know now there is duplication as obviously there are many others who
know Apple as well as I do.

That was me... don't know why I became a "nobody"
