GF Jewett...

1.1.3 works for me. If I pull up a contact and click on the home or business address, it shows up on Google Maps immediately. No bug here. Maybe your test address was incomplete or wrong and doesn't exist?

Re: First Look: iPhone 1.1.3
Kendell,

Saying MMS is a "useless relic" is the same as saying SMS is a "useless relic". There is more immediacy in MMS and SMS and with both you know its going directly and only to their phone. When you send an email, it just goes into the email que and they may get it on their phone, with other mails or they may not get it until they check mail on their home/work machine.

There is a purpose for MMS.

Re: First Look: iPhone 1.1.3
I think Apple fixed a couple of things surrounding BlueTooth and Voicemail. Before 1.1.3, you ALWAYS had to hit "Audio" then select "Bluetooth Headset" in order to use BT for Voicemails. It ALWAYS defaulted to the iPhone ear speaker.

Also, if you were using BT with Voicemail, if you punched "Return Call", it would default back to the iPhone ear speaker as well. Very inconvenient.

In 1.1.3.... if you've been using BT Headset, then when you go to listen to VoiceMail, it defaults to the BT headset. If you then hit "return call", it keeps the BT Headset active. yeah!!

Also, if you leave VOicemail for iPod function, the BT is turned off. Prior to 1.1.3, if you turned on BT in Voicemail, then went to iPod... you could actually listen to music and podcasts over your headset. No more. They "fixed" that oversight.

While I appreciate the iPhone upgrades that were offered, I was not
thrilled. No cut-and-paste, no direct file transfer, no Flash for
Safari, no non-network apps. Web apps are fine if you have a network
connection, but you cannot use them in a plane in-flight and if you’re
limited to EDGE they are often too slow. Worse, no sign of the iPhone
SDK for anything but web apps. If Apple cannot design non-web apps,
then open it to 3rd-party developers. This is getting lame.

When oh when are they going to allow cut and paste?

The interface would be so simple just tap and hold until a select/cut/copy/paste menu appears.

Re: First Look: iPhone 1.1.3
All iPhone owners feel the same way. I dont think they can not create the apps because they just released the applications for the ipod touch which were primarily optimized for the iphone so I dont think they can't create it. Its just a little ridiculous that they keep introducing more and more products while the current products they have still needs alot of finishing. Yes Macbook Air is nice and all but I think people would have been alot more satisfied seeing the iPhone go to the next level...but he barely even talked about that. I could care less about appleTV right now and I know lots of people who feel the same way. Macbook Air to me is less than stellar to be honest because everyone was expecting some sort of a tablet kind of notebook that could have benefited from their knowledge of the iPhone but he was getting too serious about thinnest which is quiet funny because when powerbook was introduced...it wasn't thin but people went and bought it not only for the looks but for the performance and macbook air to me is too expensive for what it is...
And it feels like iPhone owners are being left in the dust yet again since Apple hasn't even released the SDK or even talked a little bit about it and they're supposed to be releasing a 3g version by the summer or so?? Now What the hell??? Then what are the original iPhone owners are supposed to look forward to then?

I'm beginning to miss when apple used to care more about their customers and when it wasnt mainstream.
Yea security could be one of the reasons why apple hasn't released SDK but if our iPhones are running an optimized version of OS X, which security is one of the reasons why its so popular, then I dont see why Apple cant invest on a much faster kind of development, I'm beginning to think they just dont give a damn anymore....they saw the numbers of how many went and bought the iphone and their stuck there staring at it and smiling at how sales they made.

Re: First Look: iPhone 1.1.3
After using PDA's since day one I remember all the time wasted on using and buying crummy apps that would crash the system. After using the iPhone since Sept I haven't had a crash and the applications seem to be very stable. I like that the apps on the iPhone match my mini apps and that the syncing procedure is basically flawless.
I have a reminder when I'm on the verge of buying a crummy 3rd party app that I just 'Have to have for only $10 or $20' NOT to buy or try it. Please don't include me in 'All iPhone owners'.

My iPhone doesn't make me buttermilk pancakes in the morning. Apple is evil and hates its customers. Whaaaa-whaaa-whaaa!

A little patience, please. Perfection is incremental.

But if everyone has email access on the phone, then you know they can get it on the phone. And I as an image receiver can choose to perhaps look at that image later instead of annoyingly having to deal with it right then.

That's why MMS is a relic. Because it lacks flexibility and the property you state as it's primary benefit is simply the result of that lack of flexibility.

I'd like to see file transfer myself, but these things will come. Except for Flash, which doesn't make sense on mobile devices - sorry, but mobile devices just are not powerful enough to deliver flash targeted at desktops.

Web apps are fine if you have a network
connection, but you cannot use them in a plane in-flight and if you’re

Actually not so, there are some web apps you can encapsulate in a bookmark so as not to require a network connection.

"No Sign"? Apple has said repeated there's an SDK coming in February. Jobs mentioned this again at the keynote.

Are you sure the interface is as simple as you think?

Tap and hold already lets you position the cursor. So why would it not be annoying to have it bring up a cut & paste menu instead?

Between fingers not being as good at selecting small regions as mice, and the need to allow for cursor positioning in addition to region selection, and the ability to paste without moving the current cursor - there is much more to think about and deal with than you make it out to be.

I would like cut & paste as well but the workarounds they have in place are pretty good for now.

Re: First Look: iPhone 1.1.3
When I created a bookmark home screen button for iPhone Central, I noticed it had a nice custom icon (as does Google). Does anyone know how to set these up to work on a given web site, what format they need to be in, etc., rather than rely on the "snapshot" method of the page being viewed?

Flimsy update. Where are cut and paste, find function, to do, sync notes, multiple delete email, ability to repeat appointment by day of month (third Tuesday of each month for example), outlining, etc. Is it so difficult to enable these functions?

Here's a bit more information on using a custom icon, along with a recommendation for size:

http://playgroundblues.com/posts/2008/jan/15/iphone-bookmark-iconage/

It has a link to the iPhone web developer site which has more detail.

If you don't want to follow the directions to the end, just tap the "search" button to the left of the "directions" button.
