Always a bridesmaid Ballmer.

NBC is gonna need a wheelbarrow for all that cash from the enormous Zune user-base. I wonder why nobody has mentioned to them that Windows users are less likely to actually PAY for content.

Re: After abandoning iTunes, NBC shows up on Zune
Was the wording a little awkward or did I read it correctly that for someone to watch these episodes now they must own an XBox AND a Zune to watch these episodes. "...on their TVs through their Xbox, connected to the Zune."

What a bunch of morons. It would be much better to have flexible pricing and $1,000 per year instead of standard pricing and $3 million dollars. I can't believe these guys run a company. Hope that works out for you...

Re: After abandoning iTunes, NBC shows up on Zune
I recall NBC commenting recently that they were willing to renegotiate with Apple, but one of the conditions was that Apple had to increase the DRM to prevent piracy. I'm confused by this statement because browsing any given torrent site for NBC shows seem to only show TV rips. I don't see ANY that originated from Apple's iTunes store. Obviously there must be something else going on behind their negotiations and it always seems to come down to $$.

Re: After abandoning iTunes, NBC shows up on Zune
If I was an NBC StockHolder or content provider I'd be screaming bloody murder right now.

Besides the user base being 1/100th of the iPod/iTunes it's going to get complicated. Having an XBox and a Zune, you've got to be kidding me.

Plus there's no flexible pricing. And since you're buying the episodes you know you can count on Microsoft maintaining their DRM servers (For Sure). Oops.

So what exactly did NBC win in this war.

This isn't such a dramatic development and I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. After all Microsoft and NBC have long been "partners" that's why there is a channel called MSNBC.

Re: After abandoning iTunes, NBC shows up on Zune
When Microsoft decides to abandon this effort, will the movies and TV shows you've bought die when you upgrade your computer? So it's more a lease than a purchase. And the DRM is a critical issue for Microsoft. It's all they have to sucker clueless executives into their trap of inferior software/hardware/DRM ecosystem.

All in all, NBC seems to be run by people who couldn't find their rear ends were with both hands and a GPS.

Well, in their defense... if you're a little overweight it can be hard to REACH your rear end. And rear ends aren't listed on my GPS... unless I add a custom location which means I'd already have to know where it is.

You see the dilemma.

Most iTunes users are Windows users, too.

Maybe Microsoft, NBC and its Parent GE are positioning themselves to saturate the luxurious Iranian marketplace for games, songs, and US TV shows.

What's the Farsi word for "stupid".

Right after Microsoft tells people that "Plays For Sure" new machine authorizations will be disabled. I don't trust Microsoft with DRM. Anyone who bought Plays For Sure content who upgrades their computer, or whose hard disk crashes is screwed.

LOL! Still $1.99 and with 1% or less the market size they had with iTunes. That's a sure way to make money.

Spinal Tap Rules

Since this is the Entertainment industry.

Remember the StoneHenge in Spinal Tap that is supposed to be 11' tall but is actually 11". I can envision tiny little NBC executive elves dancing around the Zune marketplace getting showered with all of the coin where they could have had the real Stone Henge.
