DAMN I'd LOVE 1942 for Mac.

I spent many mornings at the iHOP @ 3 am feeding quarters into that thing!

The $30 is a deal breaker for sure. The demo was fun, but not that fun.

BTW, Duke Nukem Forever is coming out in 2008! Finally!

They promised. :D

Re: Review: Return to Dark Castle
I tried the demo and I absolutely loathed the game. It's unreasonably difficult - the controls seem sluggish and/or excessively picky and I didn't have the patience to get used to them after dying 10 or 20 times in the first room. I play a LOT of old-school platformers (Midnight Mansion, Bud Redhead, "Cave Story", etc.) and this one just isn't in the same league. I suppose it might have sentimental value to somebody, but not me as I didn't own a Mac until 2006.

Back in the day, I literally did walk miles in the snow to play Dark Castle on a friends Mac Plus. It's great to see it again! Now what about a decent Crystal Quest remake??

I'm waiting for a remake of Scruffy vs. The Invaders from Mars. That and 3 in Three.

Mmm, I miss my old 512ke "fat mac". And I've played Midnight Mansion. And Midnight Mansion, you're no Dark Castle.

Actually, Midnight Mansion, you're more of a Montezuma's Revenge.

Mmm, I miss my old Atari 5200...

Re: Review: Return to Dark Castle
Oh, the hours I used to spend on my family's Mac Plus playing this. To this day, the sound effects still echo in my head. Actually, I still have that Mac Plus packed away in my attic and it still works; and somewhere, I have the Dark and Beyond Dark Castle discs. I have been following the Z-Sculpt soon-to-be-released version ever since it was announced and kept my fingers crossed. I'm glad to see it has finally hit the light of day.

3 in Three and The Fool's Errand were great puzzle games. They just don't seem to make anything like that anymore. Whatever happened to the guy that programmed those (I believe his name was Cliff Johnson)?

Some day, Cliff Johnson will ship his long-promised followup, The Fool and his Money.

The current target date is some time in September. Four years after I ordered my copy.

Re: Review: Return to Dark Castle
As a fan of the original Dark Castle games, I really enjoy Return to Dark Castle. Unfortunately, however, I haven't wanted to play it anymore after I found out about the awful copy protection scheme. The game requires online validation every 30 days, or else it won't let you play. So if you haven't played it in a while and don't have an internet connection, you can't play it. This bugs me so much... especially since the game has been cracked anyway, so the only people that this hurts are those (like me) that purchased the game legally.

I just read that Spore (at least on the PC) will have a similar copy protection scheme, but it will require validation every TEN days! If the Mac version has this as well, I (sadly) will not be buying Spore.

Re: Review: Return to Dark Castle
Well, I guess seven years wasn't long enough to test :-( Every time I launch DC3 I have CoreServicesUIAgent crash and DC3 just bounces endlessly and never opens.

This sucks and is rather amazing on a Aluminium Rev 1 24" 2.8GHz iMac running 10.5.2.
